Which Ajax alarm should you choose?
An Ajax alarm is always built the same way: a control panel (the Hub), detectors on passage areas and entry points, a siren to deter intruders, and a keypad or remote to arm the system without taking out your phone. All components communicate over Ajax's Jeweller radio, with no cables to run.
The simplest approach is to start from an Ajax alarm kit, then add the detectors your home needs. To go further, read our guide which Ajax alarm to choose in Belgium.
Which Ajax Hub should you choose?
| Control panel | Devices | Users | Communication | Photo verification | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ajax Hub | 100 | 50 | Ethernet + GSM | No | €208.66 |
| Ajax Hub 2 | 100 | 50 | Ethernet + 2 SIM | Yes | €292.75 |
| Ajax Hub 2 4G | 100 | 50 | Ethernet + 2 SIM 4G | Yes | €440.32 |
| Ajax Hub 2 Plus | 200 | 200 | Ethernet + Wi-Fi + 2 SIM 4G | Yes | €512.48 |
For a house or an apartment, the Ajax Hub 2 is the right choice: it handles photo verification from MotionCam detectors. Choose the 4G version if your internet connection is unreliable. Compare all Ajax control panels.
Ajax Hub 2 or Hub 2 Plus?
Both control panels provide the same level of security: same Jeweller radio, same photo verification, same app. The Hub 2 Plus is justified for a shop or professional site: 25 security groups instead of 9, 200 users and a fourth communication channel (Wi-Fi). The details are in our comparison Ajax Hub 2 vs Hub 2 Plus.
Which Ajax detectors should you choose?
- MotionProtect (€79.34) — the standard infrared motion detector, with pet immunity, for a hallway, living room or landing.
- MotionCam (€174.00) — motion detector with a camera: you see what triggered the alarm. Compatible with Hub 2 and Hub 2 Plus.
- MotionProtect Plus (€109.51) — infrared + microwave, for difficult rooms (veranda, draughts, sunlight).
- DoorProtect (€46.04) — magnetic opening detector for a door or window.
- DoorProtect Plus (€69.07) — adds shock and tilt detection: the one to choose for the front door.
- GlassProtect (€79.34) — glass break detection by microphone.
- Outdoor: MotionProtect Outdoor and MotionCam Outdoor, to detect an intruder before they reach the building.
All models are in the Ajax detectors collection.
Ajax alarm for an apartment
A Hub 2, two or three motion detectors, an opening detector on the entrance door and an indoor HomeSiren are enough for most apartments. A kit covers this need directly.
Ajax alarm for a house
Plan one motion detector per passage area on the ground floor, one opening detector on each entry point, a clearly visible StreetSiren outdoor siren on the facade and a KeyPad near the entrance. A detached house is properly covered with four to six detectors.
Ajax alarm for a shop or business
Choose the Hub 2 Plus: several security groups let you arm the stockroom while the shop floor stays open, and the dual 4G SIM secures transmission. Add MotionCam detectors for visual verification, a KeyPad Plus with badges for staff, and a connection to our dispatching service.
How much does an Ajax alarm cost?
| Configuration | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|
| Ajax Hub kit (control panel, motion detector, door contact, remote) | €373.65 |
| Ajax Hub 2 kit with PIRCAM | €544.46 |
| Ajax Hub 2 Plus kit with PIRCAM | €813.65 |
| Complete Ajax Hub 2 kit (PIRCAM, RFID keypad, indoor siren, remote) | €856.34 |
| Installation by a licensed technician, up to 10 items | €302.50 |
Example for a house: a Hub 2 kit with PIRCAM, two MotionProtect detectors, two DoorProtect contacts, a StreetSiren outdoor siren and a KeyPad come to approximately €1,072 incl. VAT (€886 excl. VAT), or approximately €1,375 incl. VAT installed. Indicative prices: the price shown on each product page prevails. See also our page on the price of a home alarm.
Can you install Ajax yourself?
Yes. The system is wireless: the Hub plugs into your router, each device is added by scanning its QR code in the app, and a Jeweller signal test tells you whether the location is suitable before you fix anything. Allow half a day for a home. In Belgium, an alarm system must then be registered via police-on-web within ten days.
Ajax installation in Belgium
If you prefer to have it fitted, installation is carried out by Belgium Security Brussels, a company licensed by the FPS Interior (no. 0666948937): survey, fitting, app configuration, full test and an explanation of how it works. Flat fee of €302.50 incl. VAT (€250 excl. VAT) for up to 10 items within 15 km of Brussels, with a travel surcharge of €121 incl. VAT beyond that. We operate in particular in Brussels, Liège, Charleroi, Namur, Mons and Nivelles.
Does Ajax work without a subscription?
Yes. The app, notifications, photo verification and remote control are included, with no monthly fees. A subscription is only useful if you want an operator to monitor alarms for you: our dispatching service starts at €21.78 incl. VAT per month. Details in Ajax alarm without a subscription.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ajax work without internet?
Yes. The Hub 2 also communicates through a SIM card: if the connection drops, alerts go through the mobile network. With no connection at all, the sirens and alarm logic keep working on site.
Is Ajax compatible with a monitoring station?
Yes, through the standard SIA (DC-09) and SurGard (Contact ID) protocols. This is how our dispatching service works.
How many detectors can an Ajax Hub handle?
100 devices for the Hub and Hub 2, 200 for the Hub 2 Plus. The real limits come sooner: 10 sirens and keypads combined and 5 ReX repeaters per control panel.
What happens in a power cut?
The control panel switches to its backup battery (about 15 hours of autonomy). Detectors run on batteries and are not affected.
Will my dog trigger the alarm?
Ajax detectors have adjustable pet immunity. A medium-sized animal moving at floor level does not trigger the alarm; adjust the placement if it can reach high furniture.
