Dahua PoE NVRs — recorders that power your cameras

A single cable per camera

An NVR with PoE ports (Power over Ethernet) powers your cameras through the network cable. No power adapter next to each camera, no socket to install up high: one RJ45 cable runs from the recorder and does everything.

How to choose the number of ports

• Count one PoE port per camera, and allow some headroom: expanding costs less than a second recorder.
• Mind the nuance: an “8-channel NVR with 4 PoE” accepts 8 cameras but powers only 4 — the others need a separate power supply or a PoE switch.
• Check the recorder's total PoE budget (in watts), not just the number of ports. A PTZ or heated camera draws several times as much as a fixed camera.

What it changes for installation

PoE mainly simplifies outdoor installations and suspended ceilings, where running 230 V is expensive. The limit remains that of Ethernet: 100 metres between the recorder and the camera. Beyond that, you need an injector or a repeater.
