These recorders are designed for infrastructures such as business parks, hospitals, campuses, retail chains, and large industrial sites.
A Different Ball Game
At 64 or 128 cameras, the recorder becomes a server. The focus shifts to total throughput, drive bays (often eight or sixteen), RAID for disk failure survival, and redundant power supplies. The choice is based on the technical specifications, not just the advertised number of channels.
Storage
Sixty-four 4 MP cameras continuously record around 30 TB per week. The question is no longer "which hard drive" but "what retention policy": recording on motion detection, differentiated resolutions by zone, secondary archiving.
Video Management Software
At this scale, the NVR's interface is no longer sufficient. A VMS centralizes multiple recorders, manages user rights, video walls, and evidentiary exports. This is the operator's true workstation.
