Why it's Highly Recommended
An alarm connected only via Ethernet or Wi-Fi has an obvious weak point: cut the internet, and the system no longer transmits anything. The box restarting, the provider having an outage, the cable being cut — in all three cases, your alarm rings unheard.
The SIM card is the backup channel. If the internet connection fails, the control panel automatically switches to the mobile network and continues to transmit alarms, verification photos, and notifications.
This is also a de facto requirement for any installation connected to a dispatching service: without a second channel, transmission is not reliable.
What an M2M Card Offers Extra
An M2M (machine to machine) SIM is not a phone SIM. It is designed for permanent, low-data, long-term use: no surprise cancellation for inactivity, no captive portal, and an encrypted connection from end to end.
The Belgian number guarantees local roaming on national networks and avoids the costs and latencies of a foreign card.
Compatibility
Micro-SIM format, compatible with Ajax control panels (Hub 2, Hub 2 Plus, Hub Hybrid, MegaHub) and Dahua AirShield control panels equipped with a SIM slot. Hub 2 Plus models have two slots: you can insert two different operators for total redundancy.
