Ajax Hub 2 or Hub 2 Plus?
This is the question we get asked most often. The Ajax Hub 2 easily covers a house or an apartment: 100 devices is already well beyond what a home actually uses.
The Hub 2 Plus is justified on three criteria. First, capacity: 200 devices, 200 users and 25 security groups, which lets you arm a stockroom, a floor or an outbuilding independently. Second, communication redundancy: Wi-Fi is added to Ethernet and the two 4G SIMs. Finally, resilience: its 3.7 V / 3 Ah Li-ion battery provides about 15 hours of autonomy during a power cut.
In practice: for a house or apartment, a Hub 2 is enough (in the 4G version if internet is unreliable). For a shop, practice, warehouse, or a connection to a monitoring station, choose a Hub 2 Plus. The full comparison is here: Ajax Hub 2 vs Hub 2 Plus.
What the control panel cannot do on its own
An Ajax control panel is sold on its own: you need to pair it with Ajax detectors, a siren and a keypad or remote. To start with a consistent set, an Ajax alarm kit costs less than buying the items separately.
Jeweller radio range
The Jeweller protocol announces up to 2,000 metres in open field between a device and the Hub. Inside a building, load-bearing walls, concrete slabs and lift shafts greatly reduce this figure. The rule in the field: always test the signal quality from the app, at the exact planned location, before fixing anything. If the signal is weak, a ReX 2 repeater solves the problem in almost every case.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change Hub later without buying new detectors?
Yes, all Jeweller devices can be re-paired to a new Hub. You only lose the reconfiguration time.
Do I need a SIM card?
It is not mandatory if the Hub is connected via Ethernet, but it is strongly recommended: the SIM takes over if the internet connection drops, which is precisely when a burglar acts. We offer an M2M SIM card at €9.68 incl. VAT per month.
Does the Hub work without a subscription?
Yes. Only a connection to a monitoring station involves a contract.
