Ajax detectors: covering the right checkpoints

An alarm system is only as good as the placement of its detectors. Three well-placed detectors are better than eight poorly oriented ones. This collection brings together all Ajax detectors: motion, opening, glass break, outdoor, fire, and flood.

Motion detectors

MotionProtect is the standard passive infrared detector: 12-meter range, pet immunity, up to five years of battery life. It's the default choice for a hallway, living room, or landing.

MotionCam adds a camera that triggers a series of images with each alarm. You receive the photos in the app within seconds. This feature makes a daily difference: you can verify the situation from your phone instead of rushing home or triggering an unnecessary intervention.

MotionProtect Plus combines infrared and a microwave sensor. The dual technology significantly reduces false alarms in challenging environments: conservatories, rooms with drafts, rooms exposed to direct sunlight.

Opening detectors

DoorProtect is placed on a door or window and detects opening via magnetic contact. DoorProtect Plus adds an accelerometer and a vibration sensor: it also detects an attempted forced entry or glass breakage, even before opening. For an entrance door, this is the preferred model.

Outdoor detectors

Outdoor models (MotionProtect Outdoor, MotionCam Outdoor, DualCurtain Outdoor) are designed to detect an intrusion before it reaches the building. They combine two infrared sensors and anti-masking analysis to ignore pets, foliage, and bad weather. For a garden or courtyard, they provide precious minutes.

Technical detection

Beyond intrusion, the range covers domestic risks: FireProtect (smoke and heat), FireProtect 2 (with carbon monoxide detection), and LeaksProtect (water leak). These detectors report to the same alarm application, without separate installation.

Where to place a motion detector?

Approximately 2.4 meters high, oriented so that an intruder crosses its field rather than moving directly towards it — an infrared sensor detects transverse movement much better. Avoid: facing a sun-exposed window, above a radiator, opposite an air conditioning vent, behind a curtain or a plant.

Frequently asked questions

Will my pet trigger the alarm?
Ajax detectors offer configurable pet immunity. A medium-sized cat or dog moving on the ground will not trigger the alarm. However, a pet accessing high furniture gets closer to the detection field: adjust the placement accordingly.

What is the battery life?
Up to seven years on the original batteries for most Jeweller detectors. The charge level is reported in the app, with an alert well before exhaustion.

How many detectors for a house?
Count one motion detector per passage area on the ground floor, plus one opening detector on each main access. A four-sided house is adequately covered with four to six detectors.
