Dahua 4MP Cameras

Dahua 4 MP cameras

4 MP is now the standard in professional CCTV, and our default recommendation for the vast majority of installations.

Why 4 MP rather than 2 MP?

The 2 MP (Full HD) is adequate for a small room, but it quickly reaches its limits as soon as the scene widens. The 4 MP doubles the effective resolution and therefore offers greater detail for the same frame. The distance at which a face or number plate can be identified depends, in particular, on the focal length, the field of view, the lighting and the installation conditions.

Why not go straight for 8 MP?

Because the 8 MP resolution doubles the data rate and therefore the storage volume, whilst the benefit is often limited on a narrow scene. For a front door, a corridor or a till area, the 4 MP resolution generally produces very similar results whilst taking up half the disk space. Reserve the 8 MP resolution for large areas.

Storage requirements

For motion-activated recording, allow for approximately 1 to 2 TB per 4 MP camera for thirty days of recordings. Four 4 MP cameras fit comfortably on a 4 to 6 TB surveillance hard drive.

Things to check before buying

Infrared range (30 m is sufficient on a building frontage, 50 m in open terrain), IP66 or IP67 protection rating for outdoor use, IK10 if the camera is accessible, and the presence of WizSense if you want to limit the number of alerts triggered by animals and foliage.
