Sirène extérieure Ajax StreetSiren blanche pour maison

Equipping a house takes more than a hub and three detectors. The number of exposed sides, the garden, the garage and your family's habits all change the setup. Here is a room-by-room method for building an Ajax alarm that fits your home, with two worked budgets.

Start with the shape of the house

The number of exposed sides determines the number of possible entry points. A terraced house (2 sides) has fewer accessible windows than a detached house (4 sides). The garden and the garage add further access points.

  • 2-side house: usually 2 to 3 motion detectors and a contact on the front door.
  • 4-side house: plan for 4 to 6 motion detectors, depending on the number of floors and entrances.
  • Garage, conservatory, cellar: each deserves separate thought, as they are common entry points.

The principle is the same everywhere: protect the entrances first (doors, windows), then the routes an intruder has to cross (hall, corridor, stairs).

The hub: Hub 2 in most cases

For a house, the Ajax Hub 2 (€292.75 incl. VAT) is enough in the great majority of cases. It handles 100 devices and 50 users, offers 9 groups and 32 scenarios, works over Ethernet and two SIM cards, and supports photo verification with MotionCam detectors. Its battery takes over during a power cut.

If you expect many devices, many users or want Wi-Fi as a backup, the Hub 2 Plus (€512.48 incl. VAT) goes up to 200 devices and 25 groups and adds Wi-Fi. To compare the two, read our article Hub 2 or Hub 2 Plus. All models are listed under Ajax hubs.

Install the hub in a central spot, out of sight, and not in the garage. You can always extend the radio range with a ReX 2 range extender if the house is large.

Room by room

Entrance and hall

This is the most important room. A DoorProtect Plus contact (€69.07 incl. VAT) on the front door detects opening, but also shock and tilt. Add a motion detector in the hall, positioned so the intruder has to cross its field. The keypad goes here, inside, near the door.

Living room and kitchen

A MotionProtect (€79.34 incl. VAT) at about 2.4 m high covers a living room. It detects up to 12 m and its pet immunity is adjustable. Avoid placing it facing a sunny window, above a radiator or near an air conditioner. If the living room has a large glass door, a contact or a glass-break detector completes the protection.

Conservatory

Conservatories are tricky: sun, temperature swings, draughts. The MotionProtect Plus (€109.51 incl. VAT) combines infrared and microwave sensing to limit false alarms in this kind of room.

Upstairs and bedrooms

In a multi-storey house, you often protect the ground floor at night and leave the upper floor free. The hub's groups allow exactly that: a night mode that arms the ground floor without triggering when you go up to the bathroom. One detector on the upstairs landing is enough in away mode.

Garage

The garage often connects to the house. Place a DoorProtect on the connecting door and a motion detector in the garage. If the up-and-over door is motorised, check the radio signal in the app before fixing the devices: metal weakens the link.

Garden

To detect an intruder before they touch the building, the MotionProtect Outdoor (€273.69 incl. VAT) offers dual infrared and anti-masking. It goes on a facade to watch the driveway, garden or terrace. The photo version, MotionCam Outdoor, costs €334.02 incl. VAT.

Sirens: one outside, one inside

The StreetSiren (€153.92 incl. VAT) goes up high (above 2.5 m), street side, clearly visible. It deters intruders and alerts neighbours. In Belgium, the outdoor siren is limited to 3 minutes. The indoor siren (HomeSiren, €79.34 incl. VAT) goes outside the protected room, for example in the corridor. See also the Ajax sirens.

Keypad: inside, near the entrance

The KeyPad Plus (€158.64 incl. VAT) is mounted at about 1.40 m, inside, near the main door, never on the facade. It lets you arm and disarm with a code or a card. The standard KeyPad costs €122.96 incl. VAT. See all Ajax keypads. You also keep the app and the SpaceControl remote (€37.27 incl. VAT).

Fit it yourself or have it installed?

Installation is within reach of a DIY enthusiast: half a day is enough for a home. Frequently asked questions

How many detectors for a 4-side house?
Plan for 4 to 6 motion detectors, plus contacts on accessible doors and windows.

Do I need an outdoor siren?
It is not compulsory, but it deters intruders and warns the neighbourhood. It goes up high, street side, and sounds for 3 minutes at most in Belgium.

Will pets trigger the alarm?
The MotionProtect's pet immunity is adjustable. Set it according to your pet's size and avoid aiming the detector at furniture it climbs.

Is a subscription required?
No, no subscription is compulsory. The app, notifications, photo verification, history and updates are included.

What happens if the internet goes down?
The hub transmits over SIM card. With no connection at all, the sirens and alarm logic keep working on site.

Can I add devices later?
Yes. A Hub 2 accepts up to 100 devices, so you can complete the system over time.
