The bullet camera is the outdoor camera of choice. Its elongated cylindrical shape is not just aesthetic: it houses a larger infrared block, resulting in significantly longer night vision than an equivalent dome camera.

Two Decisive Advantages

Deterrence. A bullet camera is visible. This is precisely what is required of it on a facade or driveway: many burglaries never start because reconnaissance showed a visible camera.

Night Range. Dahua bullet models commonly advertise 50 to 80 meters of infrared range, whereas a dome often peaks at 30 meters. In an open field, a deep garden, or a parking lot, the difference is crucial.

What to Check

Waterproofing (IP66 minimum, IP67 in direct exposure), the actual IR range relative to the area to be covered, and the presence of the integrated sunshade that protects the optics from heavy rain and glaring reflections.

A practical note: a bullet camera is adjustable and therefore can be knocked out of alignment. Tighten the ball joint firmly during installation, and check the framing after the first winter.

Full-Color or Infrared?

Full-Color models retain color at night thanks to a more sensitive sensor and white lighting. At a main entrance, being able to describe the color of clothing or a vehicle often changes the outcome of an investigation.
