An ethernet switch fitted with a fibre optic port is used to link a group of remote cameras or controllers to the core of the network: copper stays within the few metres of the rack or enclosure, while the fibre covers the distance between buildings with no loss of throughput and without being affected by electrical interference. It is a common item as soon as a site extends over several locations.
