Which Ajax Hub to choose?

The control panel — the "Hub" — is the brain of the system. It receives signals from detectors, triggers the alarm, and transmits information to users and the central monitoring station. The choice of Hub determines the rest of the installation, so it should be made first.

Hub 2 is suitable for the vast majority of homes. It handles photo verification of alarms: when a MotionCam detector triggers, a series of images immediately goes to your smartphone. You'll know in seconds whether it's an intrusion or your cat.

Hub 2 Plus is the enhanced version. It supports up to 200 devices, 200 users, 25 security groups, and 64 automation scenarios. Crucially, it has four communication channels: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and two SIM slots for 2G/3G/4G LTE. Neutralizing a Hub 2 Plus alarm requires simultaneously cutting the landline, Wi-Fi, and two mobile operators. This is the logical choice for a business, a practice, or an isolated house where the internet connection is not reliable.

Hub Hybrid is for installations that need to mix radio and wired connections, typically for renovations where some wired infrastructure already exists.

Jeweller or Fibra: Radio or Wired?

Jeweller is Ajax's proprietary radio protocol. It operates at 866–926.5 MHz depending on the region, with encryption, frequency hopping, and a stated range of up to 2,000 meters in open space. Each device communicates with the Hub every 12 to 36 seconds: a cut or jamming is detected almost immediately. Detectors last up to seven years on their original batteries. This is the solution for installation without drilling or pulling cables, making it ideal for the vast majority of homes and small businesses.

Fibra is the wired version of the range: up to 2,000 meters of cable per line, no possible radio interference, no batteries to replace. Fibra is essential for buildings under construction, large stores, industrial sites, and anywhere the radio environment is saturated or regulatory requirements are high.

Both protocols can coexist on a Hub Hybrid: you don't have to choose a side definitively.

Home, apartment, or business?

Apartment — a Hub 2, two or three motion detectors, an opening detector on the landing door, an indoor siren. A ready-to-install kit covers the needs.

Detached house — consider one motion detector per passage area on the ground floor, opening detectors on access points, an outdoor StreetSiren for deterrent effect, and a keypad near the main entrance.

Business — the Hub 2 Plus is recommended: multiple security groups allow arming the stockroom without arming the sales floor, and the dual 4G SIM guarantees transmission to the central monitoring station. Add photo verification, which significantly reduces unnecessary false alarms.

Compatibility

All Ajax devices of the same generation are compatible with each other via the Ajax Security System app (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS). Ajax also interfaces with central monitoring stations via SIA (DC-09), SurGard (Contact ID), and ADEMCO 685 protocols. However, be aware: Ajax devices only work with an Ajax Hub — there is no cross-compatibility with Dahua AirShield or Satel.

Installation

A wireless Ajax system can be installed in half a day. The Hub connects via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, each device is added by scanning its QR code in the app, and the Jeweller signal quality test is launched from the app before final mounting. Always mount after validating the signal, never the other way around.

In Belgium, an alarm system installed in a home must be declared via the federal contact point: the declaration is free and done online. No obligation for a central monitoring contract is attached to it.

Does Ajax work without a subscription?
Yes. The app, push notifications, and remote control are included, with no recurring fees. A subscription is only necessary to connect the system to a professional central monitoring station.

What happens in the event of a power outage?
The Hub 2 Plus includes a 3.7 V / 3 Ah Li-ion battery providing approximately 15 hours of battery life. Battery-powered detectors are not affected.
