When is 5 MP the right choice?

Typically when the area to be covered is wider than a simple access point — a courtyard, a dock, a sales floor — but storage budget remains constrained. You gain approximately 25% resolution over 4 MP for a moderate increase in data rate, whereas upgrading to 8 MP would double storage requirements.

Image format

Pay attention to the aspect ratio: some 5 MP sensors are 4:3 rather than 16:9. The field of view is then taller and narrower, which is well suited for a corridor or an aisle, but less so for a facade. Check this detail on the product sheet before ordering.

Storage to plan for

Allow approximately 1.5 to 2.5 TB per camera for thirty days of motion detection recording.
